Working with agencies as both a client and as an employee for 20 years, it became evident that digital marketing had caught everyone off-guard. While marketing fundamentals essentially stayed the same, discovering how to apply them to new tools became a challenge.

Unsure how it all really worked, both digital advertisers and marketing agencies fumbled their way through the early stages.

Marketing Agencies Slow to React

The beginning of PPC and digital marketing opened up a whole new world for many businesses—literally. The small or medium-size business now had competition from competitors from all over the world.

With everybody jumping on the pay-per-click bandwagon, agencies attempted to catch-up, and businesses desperately needed someone to get them in the game. The result would be success for those who figured it out, and millions of dollars wasted for those who didn’t.
